Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain!
A new study shows 85% of homeowners upgraded their shower during a master bathroom renovation.
Bathrooms, along with kitchens, have always been a top room to renovate and now the trend is stronger than ever on master bathrooms.
Materials costs have increased due to trade disputes, driving up master bathroom renovation costs. Despite this, renovation activity remains strong, propped by high home equities and homeowners’ desire to stay put given the limited housing supply.
On average, homeowners spent $8,000 on a bathroom remodel and if budget constraints limit what is done, showers always top the list of where the money gets spent. The inclusion of smart toilets in the master bath is on the rise with the most popular smart toilet feature being self-cleaning bowls.
Homeowners are spending big for luxury finishes that include ceramic or porcelain shower walls or natural stone flooring. Marble is currently the most popular stone option, followed by granite, slate, and travertine. Rainfall showerheads, dual showers, thermostatic mixers, and steam showers are special amendments that are also being favored by rennovators.
Transitional and modern design styles are favored, with homeowners’ desire to create a spa-like experience in their master bathrooms. In keeping in line with the spa theme, homeowners are choosing clean and calm color palettes with white reigning supreme, closely followed by gray and pale taupe. However trends are showing patterned or colored accent walls.
With the desire for spa features and creating a place in the home for relaxation, deluxe bathroom renovations are likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
